Will Hollande win the French election and keep all his promises?
Re:I think Hollande has a great chance, but its too early to count Sarkozy out particularly with Merkel backing him so strongly. Don't forget there are other parties that could really cause this to be something beyond just Hollande versus Sarkozy.  (2/8/2012)
Re:One never knows in an election, but austerity, even if needed, is never popular. Mainly because the burden falls on the poor and middle classes, not the rich. Who'd have guessed that an endorsement by a Hun would be valuable to a Frech pol?  (2/8/2012)
Do you believe that physicists have found particles that exceed the speed of light?
Re:Don't forget the Hyperdrive. How else could the Empire get those big Corelian Battle Cruisers from one part of the Galaxy to another so quickly! And that was long, long ago. So it must be true.  (2/7/2012)
Re:Concur that physicists have found particles that exceed the speed of light. The article states that other physicists are in the process of confirming this event. If this is a confirmed, the world of possiblites vastly expands not only for deep space exploration but other technological advances (e.g, medicine, IT). Intersted in seeing future updates.  (2/7/2012)
Re:This is kind of exciting, but it really does need more testing to see if one experiment is right. I hope they are since it opens up so many possibilities.  (2/8/2012)
Are you in favor of multiple citizenship, including having more than one passport?
Re:It's no surprise business is in favor of multiple citizenship. They have largely succeeded in out-sourcing many jobs, and hiding much of their income from taxes. It was a mistake first allowing Us/Israeli dual citizenship. I have no problem making citizenship requirements less burdensome, but no one can be loyal to two or more countries.  (2/3/2012)
Re:This isn't a simple question and you have to look at the needs of both the individuals involved and the governments that have to protect their countries. I could see hopefully a lot of compromises here.  (2/3/2012)
Re:Sounds like some people could get shizophrenic about this issue. Who are you, where do you live, who do you give your loyalty to. Tough stuff.  (2/4/2012)
Re:I think that terrorism and those kind of people being able to take advantage of mulitple passports turns me off on the idea. The EU has special rules, but the rest of the world is better off with people wedded to one country.  (2/6/2012)
Should the Catholic Church consider making major reforms in its doctrines?
Re:If they keep electing relics like Benedict as Pope then reforms will never come. He belongs back in the 12th century.  (2/1/2012)
Re:Not being Catholic, I try to refrain from telling the Catholic Church how to run their business. But it seems to me that getting rid of the celibacy rule and opposition to contraception would be good places to start.  (2/2/2012)
Re:The Church really should just split up again. True believers in the present stuff to the right, reformers to the left and keep what you want of it.  (2/2/2012)
Re:At least do something about that celibacy rule, Benedict. The CHurch is going to go bankrupt over court cases if you don;t  (2/3/2012)
Re:Next big surprise. Pope accused of molesting altar boys.  (2/3/2012)
Do you believe the rich should pay higher taxes and have benefits like capital gains trimmed back?
Re:Yeh, let them see what its like to live paycheck to paycheck and have a 12 year old clunker of a car.  (2/1/2012)
   Re:Ask Romney!  (2/1/2012)
   Re:Oh, you can't do that. That's hurting the "job creators". Ha-ha.  (2/2/2012)
Re:Seems like a no-brainer to me. Why should they get all the breaks. SO sad for them if they get hit. They get to drive around in only five luxury cars instead of 10. Or is that 10 instead of 20?  (2/2/2012)
Should the Canadian oil pipeline project be approved eventually?
Re:I'm ambivalent on this. We could use the oil from a friendly nation, but I have major environmental concerns. Plus the infamous Koch brothers are major investors, and I really detest those folks.  (1/27/2012)
Re:Trying to find any sort of construction project that won't cause some damage is impossible. The oil is needed, its a helluva lot better source in Canada than the Mid East, so go for it.  (1/28/2012)
Re:Like the Canadians, Like the oil they're offering, but don't like the environmental damage.   (1/29/2012)
Re:Addressing the environmental issues on a project of this size would be a huge undertaking. Typically environmental review of projects, even on a much smaller scale, provide an analysis of alternatives and impacts of each of those options. In addition the economic benefit analysis of the project not only during construction but long term. This effort could provide long term job opportunities in areas of the country that have suffered greatly in the past several years.  (2/7/2012)
Should more controls be placed on the functioning and operations of the internet?
Re:The mention of the Chinese and Russians wanting restrictions on the internet convinced me that would be a BAD thing. Governments should stay out of it all except where there are clear cases of crimes.  (1/25/2012)
Re:Go after the bad guys. Leave the net alone.  (1/26/2012)
Re:Piracy is a problem, but the recent PIPA and SOPA legislation, delayed if not stopped by Wikipedia and friends, is an example of overkill. And when regimes like Russia and China call for "order", I get very nervous.  (1/26/2012)
Re:I don't think the government should get more involved unless there is some defrauding of the public or hacking going on. Otherwise, leave it be.  (1/27/2012)
Re:There's this TV commercial where a female violinist and her doctor exchange places with very bad results and the question, would you want your doctor doing your job? So, don't try to do your doc's job. Sound point. Keep the government regulation out of the internet and let it do its job which is mostly fun entertainment and helpful stuff for business.  (1/30/2012)
Is the Obama Administration’s stance against Iran one of appeasement?
Re:Leave it to the Republicans to criticize him for NOT getting us headlong into yet another war. I think he's doing fine on this one.  (1/25/2012)
Re:Only to lunatic GOP presidential candidates. If Newt or Mitt get in, buy defense stocks and build a bomb shelter. They make W look like a peacenik.  (1/25/2012)
Re:Jesus, who are these guys! Remnants of WWII and appeasing Hitler like Chamberlain did? Come on, we don't need a war with Iran and Obama is trying to avoid it.  (1/26/2012)
Re:These guys are desperate president wannabes so they are going to say anything.  (1/27/2012)
Could financial and economic collapses in Europe become the major cause of another U.S. recession?
Re:It's a shame we put so much stock in these rating agencies, as they gave great ratings to various dubious financial instruments (see mortgage securities) which helped trigger the financial crisis in 2008. Nevertheless, the Euro debt situation is not good, and could derail the US economy.  (1/20/2012)
Re:Any way you slice it, its not good news that Europe is falling apart. I'm not sure the U.S. economy is strong enough to avoid recession if the Old World doesn't get its act together. No man is an island and No country in this global economy is isolated.  (1/20/2012)
Re:I agree there are signs that the U.S. is recovering and much better than Europe, but you can't underestimate a whole continent with a bunch of sick economies that has the impact to really hurt the whole world.  (1/22/2012)
Re:Yes, I think this is the main threat, and there are so many of them in so many countries that it is mind boggling. Obama is right to keep out of it and use only minor adjustments to help them out. They need to get on the stick and help themselves.  (1/23/2012)
Who will win the Super Bowl in 2012?
   Re:Go Pats!  (1/19/2012)
Re:I'm rooting for a Harbowl, but reality bites. My picks: NE 31 Ravens 17 Unless Tsizzle knocks out "Pretty Boy" Brady, then on to Indianapolis! NY 28 SF 20 Super Bowl? NY 35 NE 31 Go Blue!  (1/19/2012)
Re:Pats are my bet if I had to, but this is a very good set of matchups and any one of the four could eke it out. Baltimore is the weakest team out there, San Francisco could be the surprise winner, and the Giants can't be discounted although I still have my doubts about them.  (1/20/2012)
Re:Come on MAN! Pats are the team! Brady and the defense will all be out there to cream Baltimore and then win another SB  (1/22/2012)
Re:Pats Pats Pats. Flaky and his aging thugs can only win if they get totally lucky and then Brady wins another Super Bowl.  (1/22/2012)
Re:Well Flakey outplayed "Pretty Boy" who didn't look all that hot against a good D. And Eli is a better QB, so tho it could go either way, I'm rooting Giants!  (1/25/2012)
